Slash Christmas Gathering was lovely. Excellent company, excellent conversation, delicious food and media consumption.

[profile] psycho_tabby made delicious strawberry daquiris. I've never had one before and was worried it would be too sweet, but it was delicious.

Also, the free range ham was the best ham I've ever tasted. I am a Ham Convert.

Secret Santa was the type you have random picking order, and then the next person can steal your gift. Stolen and restolen amongst much hilarity was a glass cherry bowl and an adorable yellow metal watering can and plastic animal shaped water diffuser thingy. I was very happy with my Doctor Who tin.

Of course, we HAD To watch the SPN episode 'Fan Fiction' because two people in the group had somehow not yet seen it. This ep literally sums up how far fandom representation and shipping has come. It could not be more perfect.

I babbled about my current fandom obsession, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, which I am extra excited about because First Australian Fandom. I showed them a Phryne/Jack vid, but did not put an ep on since this is still, technically, a slash gathering.

Instead I pimped The Originals, aided and abetted by [personal profile] mr_booboo. We watched the pilot (which is hilariously exposition heavy and involves many characters and flashbacks). Poor [profile] zebra363 was like 'my comprehension is about 20%' but mr_booboo and I provided lots of important explanations about relationships and pairings, and I think some people plan to watch it.

(I did do a tiny pimp post here a while back but I see now that it was totally inadequate).

To the person who asked if there are lots of flashbacks, Yes, there are!

This is one of my fave scenes. Marcel has just come back from war and Elijah literally says to Marcel about Klaus - "Ï'm glad you're back, he's been beside himself while you were gone".

Also, Klaus and Elijah are VERY devoted brothers (cut because image is huge in DW) )

I rarely watch tv when I'm by myself - I have the internet - but I could compete for Australia in watching stuff with other people.

Where I watch more gay films in one sitting than I have in the last six months. )

Then it was time for the actual Gathering and conversation and then I had to leave before [livejournal.com profile] zebra363's birthday celebration to collect Bunny, who ended up with fish and chips and brussel sprouts for dinner alfresco while I drank beer and watched Bunny's dad attempt to get his 'classic' car started.

And now I'm feeling all inspired to watch these half a dozen gay films someone lent me like, a year ago, but Dragonfly has homework to do. As though that's more important. *sniffs*

The gathering yesterday was everything a Slash Gathering should be. Good friends, junk food, massages, songvids, crazy purple alcoholic drinks out of Supernatural, threats to my life, and show pimping.

Yes, you see, I'm not allowed to spam y'all about Smallville anymore, though apparently Supernatural is still okay.

So, I'm creating a filter list with only [livejournal.com profile] chaodyssey and [livejournal.com profile] ascetic_hedony on it - they foolishly expressed interest, so they don't get a choice. But if anyone else is deriving amusement at my expense and would like to be on it, feel free to say so. This thing can't last much longer anyway, right?

I had THE BEST TIME yesterday.

I love my friends. I LOVE that our friendships have grown beyond that which brought us together over the years. I love the fact that we hang out, and talk about Life Stuff, and snuggle, and cook (well, not me, obviously).

But yesterday was all about our Mutual Love.

We watched many songvids, mostly brought by me (and hasn't my last couple of days been - focussed) so I got to pimp some of my favourites. Pimping is just so much fun.

[livejournal.com profile] silver_b_a then put on the pilot of Life On Mars, and the two? three? people in the room who hadn't yet been forcibly sat down and pimped to yet got to finally see it. To the accompaniment of 'That's Gene!' 'Gene rocks!' 'See how fabulous Gene is pushing people around and being a bastard?'

Sphinx brought along Big Wolf on Campus, which some of us liked, some wandered off to chat, or help organise dinner.

After dinner there was opening of presents by the birthday people. [livejournal.com profile] ravenclaw_harpy got the crappy 80's tv show War of the Worlds, which only me and her like, yet we insisted people watch some, so they could at least know what Colonel Ironhorse looks like. So, SO BAD. At least people got a laugh out of it.

And [livejournal.com profile] silver_b_a got Space: Above and Beyond. Which is a GOOD show. So, we watched the pilot episode, and cheered whenever McQueen came on the screen (what? I wasn't the only one!) and pimped the characters to the newbies "That's West. He's supposed to be all heroic and tortured. Forget him. He's whiny.' 'This is Hawkes. You WILL love him.' 'McQueen and Hawkes are looking at each other!!'

Fandom is good.

Bunny attempted to put Black-cat down the toilet yesterday. Luckily I got there in time - I felt like I was in one of those slow motion 'Nooooooo' scenes. My cat, while surprisingly forbearing of Bunny lugging her around, earned her reputation for random violence honestly.

Bunny doesn't need any more pet-related scars.

On the subject of the Slashmas party. Great name, btw, whoever came up with it. Seemed like everyone had fun.

Quote of the day, I think it was [livejournal.com profile] scrat saying wistfully, 'Remember the early days of the slash gang, when songvids would be on in the background, now it's kids' shows...' What? They don't like Mary Poppins? There's singing!

Also, we celebrate Jody's birthday on this day too. For about a minute and half, as she doesn't like to be the centre of attention. This year we've had her prezzie since Swancon, when she saw a $200 stuffed dragon at the artshow.

[ [ [ [ FLASHBACK ] ] ] ]

Jody - Oh wow this is amazing. I think I have to get it.
Me - Don't be silly. It's a waste of money.
Jody - But it's beautiful. I really really want it.
Me. Don't waste your money, you've got more important things to spend your money on haven't you?
Jody (reluctantly) I guess...but I really love it.
Me (stern) Jody! You don't need it! Where will you keep it? You don't have that much room.
Jody. *sad*
[livejournal.com profile] emma_in_oz DON'T BE SO MEAN [livejournal.com profile] sarren!
Me *whisper* I'M BUYING IT FOR HER!
[livejournal.com profile] emma_in_oz oops.

Yes cos I randomly go around being mean to my friends.

So, we surprise Jody with this big silver wrapped prezzie. Jody looks amazed and pleased, there's an air of expectation, of tension...

Bunny *gleeful* IT'S A DRAGON.

Me *facepalm*

My 'green not greed' t-shirt is nifty.

It conveys to the worid that I'm a 'barmy leftie' (as [livejournal.com profile] special_trille likes to describe us)
Also, it is very tiny and very green.

These are all good things, thus I decided to wear it on Saturday. So we go to vote, which as things never run smoothly in Sarren-land, it turns out that you can't wear advertise a political party within a certain radius of the voting booths. Apparently in case you cause people to change their political opinions in the time it takes them to queue and vote. What the?

So I ended up making more of a statement than I'd originally intended. The Greens pamphlet guy offered me a shirt from his car, but I went with the more fun option and flipped the t-shirt up so the slogan was covered. I mentioned it was really tight, right? Got quite a bit of attention while waiting in the queue.

Finally it's my turn.

Official - Name?
Me *gives full name*
Official *looking, looking*
Me *puts finger on name* There
Official - Address?
Me *gives address* I'm reading it right off the page. I'm actually totally somebody else.
Official - Is this the first time you've voted today?
Me - Yes. Unless you count the five other electorates I've already been around today.
Official - You'd need to go around more than five if you're voting Green.
Me *sob*

Also, I had a lovely birthday weekend, if you don't count the part where my country betrayed me. We had a party for ME on Sunday, which admittedly involved the first couple of hours being spent with all of us depressed and rehashing the election travesty, but after the sugar kicked in (other people get drunk, fans get sugar highs) we cheered up (though [livejournal.com profile] emma_in_oz was probably faking it for my sake) and people paid attention to me, and the world was good. Well, for me.

Big thank-yous to everyone who made my day lovely by washing-up, child-minding, tea-making or mostly importantly, paying attention to me. I love you all lots.

And then we watched one of my prezzies, Y Tu Mama Tambien , which rocked, and then everyone went home except [livejournal.com profile] zebra363 who sinks ever deeper into the bottomless pit of fandom, and has newly discovered the guilty pleasure of rewatching the 'good bits'. Over and over.

I love my friends.

I started reading a Harry/Draco fic, but then Draco 'replied saucily', and I had to stop.

I got lucky Sunday night...

....and the ten people on my flist who were at the Gathering at my place are now thinking 'not with me!'

15 slashers in my tiny loungeroom...pretty cosy, is what I'm saying...

So, anyway, on with the Latest Thing That Happened to Sarren.

So it's late. Everyone's abandoned Sports Night and gone home, even[livejournal.com profile] ascetic_hedony who'd stuck around for some Coupling.

I'm actually asleep (as opposed to ljing at some obscene hour of the morning) and a Noise wakes me!

(NB. I can, and have, slept through a bobcat razing our backyard)

I peer through my blinds and on at the end of our circular-driveway-thingy there's a car stopped, engine running, lights on. I'm like, uh oh, and I watch it for maybe 5 minutes til I hear guys' voices talking and then I'm thinking, oh it's just the hoons that live nearly opposite to us, and go back to sleep.

The next morning the car's gone but there's a trail of devastation. The car's obviously come up the kerb from the opposite side of the property, first flattening the no parking sign on the edge, taking out our small tree near the road completely, big tyre grooves all through our mulching and coming to a stop just before the streetlamp.

The part where I got lucky? I normally park my car in the centre of the circular, but for the gathering I had moved it to the end, just like I always do, so that we can fit more cars in. Except that this Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] dragonfly8 had said, why not reverse it right back up into the garden a bit, to make even more room? To which I'd mumbled something vaguely agreeingish and kept on with whatever I was doing, and [livejournal.com profile] dragonfly8 said, hey I'll do it shall I? And did.

So the fact that my car is not currently totalled is down to [livejournal.com profile] dragonfly8 's proactiveness.
