After a lot of soulsearching I've become convinced that I will never appreciate anime.
*pauses while sundry friends try to come to terms with this shocking revelation*
Even now a dvd sits on my shelf, waiting forlornly, lent me by a well-meaning friend. 'Look, it's got vampires!' Hopeful look in his eyes.
Just saw 'Kill Bill'. Which seems to be just anime with actors so they can make the blood and gore even more...entertaining? Having said that, I did like the stylistic stuff, the club with the band with the beehives and the jivey dancing, and the way the gang arranged themselves along the upper floor. Also deep appreciation for Uma Thurman in all the scenes where she wasn't blood covered, but then I've had a crush on Uma most of my adult life so not unbiased here. But my opinion overall... Meh. My first reaction when the credits finally rolled was 'Oh thank god.' followed by 'Not even for Uma am I seeing the second one.'
I thought from the promos that I might not love 'The Village' I'm only 2 for 3 in liking M. Night's films, as I inexplicably failed to appreciate 'Unbreakable' despite my intense love for Bruce and Samuel. *shrug* Anyhow, glad to be wrong. Joachim was amazing, so was Ron Howard's kid and The Pianist guy. It was suitably creepy and suspenseful and the twist at the end was twisty. I do have one quibble.
( which I'm lj-cutting because I'm not spoiler!girl. ) But. Very Cool Film.
Ah Clive! *shakes head* Clive, Clive, Clive. What happened? You signed your contract before you read the script? Or were you there for Keira in blue body paint? God knows the rest of us were... If this sounds like I didn't like 'King Arthur' just cos I'm bitching about it, it's just not so. The film was pretty. The countryside, the costumes, and lordy, lordy Keira and Ioan were all pretty. And Clive was Manly. Even the story was reasonably good (not in an excess plotty way) But the script! The script! Not point-and-snigger bad...just damn
tedious.
And Ioan? Should play 'The Master' in the new Dr Who series. Or else spend the rest of his life making pirate movies. I'm just saying.
In other news,
mr_booboo stopped by tonight
to show off in an unbecoming gloatingly way her new fabulous car because she wanted to share some quality time with her friends.
We revenged ourselves by inflicting Bunny on her. Our own personal WoMD.
