Restaurant rec!!!
Jul. 7th, 2009 10:59 pmIf you google "perth cantina" you'll get a heap of glowing reviews about Cantina 663 in Mt Lawley.
Speaking as someone who's just been there for the third time, over the space of several months, each time it has been superb. My folks practically live there, and are on very friendly terms with the peeps, so we always get fabulous service, so I can't give an unbiased review of that and also, they only seem to stock Spanish beer (I didn't even realise it's an Italian restaurant til I googled). But you can BYO.
But the food. OMG. They are big on only using fresh ingredients, so there's only ever five or six mains to choose from, and the menu changes frequently. Tonight I had seared barramundi on eggplant salad with sesame and potato and it was awesome. When I told them I was going to tell all my friends to come and have the barramundi dish, I was informed that it had been 'tweaked' since yesterday, and who can predict the whims of chefs?
It's also tiny and it's best to book, we got there at 6.30pm and by the time we'd finished dessert (shared a cannoli with coffee granita) and good lattes, the place was packed and loud. On a rainy Tuesday night.
So I'd be up for it if anyone wants to go sometime.
