Me - Okay, bye, have a great long weekend.
[livejournal.com profile] angriest - Yeah, bye.
Me - Hey, do you believe [livejournal.com profile] zebra363 was afraid I was going off The Persuaders? Crazy!
Angriest - Oh, hey. *casually leans back in chair*
Me - Mmm?
Angriest - We were discussing potential panels for Swancon and there were a couple that made me think of you.
Me *takes tiny step back* Uh huh.
Angriest - One was how fanfic online is becoming different to *something something*
Me - Oh, [livejournal.com profile] bardigrub, [livejournal.com profile] emma_in_oz and [livejournal.com profile] cupidsbow always run those.
Angriest - We're looking for new people.
Me *la la I can't hear you*
Angriest - The other was on how people have built whole fandoms on shows that have been off the air for many years.
Me *faint stirring of unease*
Angriest - Three shows in particular were named. One was *something*, one was *something* and the other was The Persuaders!
Me - Okay I'll do it!

I was clearly lured into a trap!! My god, those convention running people are SNEAKY.

Everyone knows my entire experience of being on panels to date is sitting there and occasionally saying 'Slash is hot!' in response to well thought out deeply intellectual questions on transgressiveness/identity/feminism in literature etc. Right? Right?

*something* and *something* were Invader Zim and Due South.

Tricked!!

Well, she's certainly qualified for due south as well.

Aww, I feel your pain. I too have been lured onto panels (sometimes panels that have changed their name and topic in between the luring and the con).

Cool! I hope it's not an early morning panel and that it's not when I'm on one if I am (I was silly and volunteered again). I want to see you bounce giddily analyse The Persuaders instead of just imagining it from your reading your posts :-).

Go you with the volunteering! Sucker

Does getting drunk first help?

Yeah, I used to be a chronic volunteer, but I'm trying to cut back. And, actually, I haven't got a response, so perhaps they don't have any oh-so-exciting editor-type panels to put me on this year.

Getting drunk is a bad idea. It tends to make one *more* prone to volunteering ;-)

Oh, you mean before the panel! If you want to have an outstanding panel that people rave about, being a little tipsy isn't necessarily bad, but getting the audience tipsy is sure to be a hit. Provide wine/liqueur and chocolate, and you'll be asked back again and again (by the attendees, if not the hotel or the con committee).

Communication has been a little clunsy this year, but if you send me something directly I will try to respond. There will be plenty of 'would you like to be on a panel' emails yet to go out, never fear, including several 0h-so-exciting editor-type panels (though we also have many editors to fill them with, so feel free to continue with the planned cutting back on volunteering).

If there is a thriving Persuaders fandom in WA by Swancon, it'll be entirely due to you!

To my way of thinking it doesn't make sense to group dS and something the The Persuaders!, because dS fandom was built when it was still on the air and has just carried on.

Doin' my best!

See, this is why if I'M on a panel about The Persuaders! YOU'RE on a panel about The Persuaders!

I might have an excuse! I'm in NSW the week immediately before Swancon and expect to be working most of that weekend (if I don't keep losing clients at this rate).

Invader Zim, which I know nothing about and Due South, why [livejournal.com profile] zebra363 has pointed out is not appropriate, as it has had a fandom following since the show was on.

But the show is long gone, and the fandom remains.

heh - everytime you and booboo posted about environmental doom, I thought of Invader Zim (the Doom Song, fyi, goes like this - "Doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom ,doom, doom" etc. Kind of reminds me of Pratchett's dwarves' gold song.)

I can't think of any shows that developed a fandom well and truly after they were dead - I think the persistence of vision would be an interesting topic. Which shows do we hand on to, and why? Not that I'm volunteering! just in case angriest is reading this.

You're going to be great at this :) Never fear :)

Shiny new faces are awesome - also it gives the people who usually run the panels a chance to partake - which is -awesome-.

Speaking as a convention person, we're always on the look out for interesting angles and ways in which we can involve people :) Another friend of mine is about to get lured on the basis of her saying she had some free time, didn't know what to do with it :P And then volunteered to help me with stuff :P *grins* Btw [livejournal.com profile] angriest, contact [livejournal.com profile] asimmum for volunteerism :P

Hey, do you believe zebra363 was afraid I was going off The Persuaders? Crazy!

I understand her fear.
