[livejournal.com profile] cricketk has expressed concern that with the new security procedures 50 minutes might not be enough time to change planes in Denver.

Anyone know how long these things take?

If it looks like she's cutting it close, have her go to the front of the line and tell the security person what's up. They'll let her cut the line.

if I remember correctly, Denver is the aiport where they are very thorough and it takes a long while to get through them. I'd be looking at changing the flight if possible, or at the very least, check your luggage all the way through to your destination so that they dont have to check it in Denver as that is what takes the extra time.

We found that having an aussie passport meant extra security checks i.e. being taken out of the line, made to stand on the Naughty Mat, being patted down, having our hand luggage thoroughly searched (probably not an issue any more). It wasn't a huge hassle but it did add a bit more to the time.

Within the US itself? You had to show your passports on internal flights?

It could be a close thing, particuarly if you have to go any distance from gate to gate. They could also reallocate your ticket if you're not on time.

*boggle* Simply changing planes doesn't require going through security at all.

If the two planes are at the same concourse, it'll take 1-10 mins to get to her next flight. Add another 5 mins if a different concourse. To get an idea whether that's likely (definitely no guarantees on this method!), you can always check the airline's web site for yesterday/today to see what gates those flights are currently using.

What're the departure/destination points? As DEN is a major UA hub, is she flying UA?

We're coming from Las Vegas and going to Memphis.

Sounds like Ted LAS-DEN and Skywest (UA Express) DEN-MEM. The former is in the middle of concourse A at DEN, while the latter is at the end of concourse B.

Ted is UA's LCC (low-cost carrier) subsidiary and only runs on cheapy holiday routes (eg. into Vegas). Skywest is a regional airline that operates CRJs (Canadair Regional Jets -- about 50 seats, cramped, poor leg room, low ceiling, no Economy Plus, small tray tables) so, if you were to miss your connection and they put you on something else, I'd call that an advantage. :)

It should be OK, but I'm not entirely sure. I left 2 hours when I was transferring domestically in Toronto, and it was plenty..
