Well it's good thing that I got to Kmart as soon as it opened and snatched up the seasons of B5 I didn't have (and they had to search for one - I'm wondering if that was their only copy) because...

Then I went to the dentist about my toothache and he looked at my X-rays and apparently I won't be able to afford any more DVDs, or study, or anything for the next few years. Cos as if the abscess and root canal work isn't enough, my wisdom teeth all need to come out.

This is all really crappy and I'm dreading the pain, but I keep reminding myself that at least I'm not [livejournal.com profile] emma_in_oz.

Oh, god. I'm so sorry. *pets* Poor thing. You'd think that we'd've evolved past wisdom teeth by now, wouldn't you?

Apparently a few people have. When I was in my early 20's my dentist at the time reckoned I might be one of the lucky ones, but alas, it was not to be.

The really annoying thing is only one of them (on the bottom) is growing sideways and impacting on the other teeth. But the other bottom one is straight but pushing against my jawbone, and the two top ones will have to come out too or they will just keep on growing down without the bottom ones to stop them...

*preens under the petting*

Oh no!

That's terrible! Teeth are painful, expensive yet necessary. See if you can arrange a long term debt repayment option like mine.

I'm hoping mine won't cost approximately half my entire lifetime's earnings like yours did!

That's really scary. I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 17, so my parents paid for it.

Do you have private health insurance?

I should go to a dentist...

Just on the off-chance the following ideas are of any use, or are indeed, even appropriate:

1. I've heard that dental training facilities offer reduced cost procedures. Maybe there is one in your region?

2. I'd be surprised if your dentist doesn't offer installment payments. Most professionals are happy with this sort of arrangement as long as they see a weekly or fortnightly installment coming in. I know that in my line of work we don't mind clients doing that as we all understand that some things are not foreseeable and not everyone can pay for the full amount at the time of service. Some of our clients even arrange for regular direct debits through their bank, so they don't even have to think about organising the payments. We send out monthly statements with all their payments listed so they know what has been taken off their balance.

3. You can always seek a second opinion from another dentist.
