So today I discovered a weird spider on a laundry door frame just above head level. Sort of like a Huntsman only with this big bobbly body. So I called cricketk over (from the IM ep she was glued to) for a looksee and we couldn't decide what it was, whether it was a sort of camouflage thingy, or pregnant... In the end I decided it had to die, just in case it was a pregnancy thing, despite K's plainative "Not just put it outside?" Cos of arachnaphobic housemate + toddler.

So I finally find the poison, aim can and spray. The thing EXPLODED!!! Or, to be accurate, thousands of baby Huntsmans became suddenly airborne in my general direction, so there's me madly spraying the air, then the ground....

Just the weirdest sight. K can verify the multitude of poor dead baby spiders. Who knew Huntsmans carried their offspring around on their backs?

So I came back later and found a lone surviving baby spider. Awww. Then I killed it so it couldn't grow up and come back to wreak terrible vengeance.

And a few minutes ago (this being nearly 10 hours later) I made the mistake of telling the story to my arachnaphobic housemate. And now my eyes are watering as she has systematically gone and sprayed the entire laundry, the hall and around the entrance to her room....
