So, finally saw the Winter Soldier
Apr. 30th, 2014 01:18 pmGiven the squee on my flist, and that fact that a couple of my fave writers are in the fandom now, I figured I wasn’t going to be able to avoid spoilers much longer so I hied myself off to the cinema, and dragged
zebra363 along.
I enjoyed it. I wasn’t bored at least (sorry, Zebra). It just didn’t have very much of what I like in a film: character development, characters bonding, fantasy/sf elements. My fave parts were the parts that incorporated that -
- Falcon was AWESOME. Love the wings
- Steve and Sam’s beginnings of a friendship
- Steve’s emotional conflict
- All the Steve/Natasha scenes
I went into the film expecting to come out massively shipping Steve/Bucky but there wasn't the awesome reunion I was expecting (possibly the title of the film gave me unrealistic expectations). At this point, with no happy ending in sight, it’s too angsty a pairing with too little current canon for me to really get passionate about - not to say I haven't read the pairing previously, and will certainly go check out what's new.
I didn't even get slashy vibes from Steve/Sam like I was expecting from the fandom excitement. Too much action, too little actual character bonding. Did read the top kudo'd Steve/Sam fics last night after the film, but again, too angsty cos Steve is still hurting so much regarding Bucky, and not much plot variety yet. I don't think I could really get passionate about slashing them unless they add more humour/discord, atm they're both super earnest good guys, which doesn't really push my buttons.
I mostly came out of the film shipping Steve/Natasha TBH. No fic on AO3 yet :(

Date: 2014-05-03 02:13 pm (UTC)I really enjoyed CA: TWS. It is by far my favourite in the MCU so far, and have seen it twice and am planning a third viewing. (I can't remember if you're watching Marvel's Agents of Shield? The post-movie fallout in the TV series is just fab.) Agree the title of the movie is misleading, and from what I hear, Winter Soldier isn't in the next Avengers movie, so any reunion will be a while coming. :(

Date: 2014-05-04 11:35 am (UTC)Yay for more fics - I read a very cool fic from Bucky's pov today, no doubt I'll be sucked into these pairings through the power of fic.
We're up to about ep 12 of AoS. Ha, we watched one the other day and I was like OH HAI SITWELL YOU HYDRA SPY, YOU.
