A few weeks ago Dragonfly and Bunny wanted to rewatch The Hunger Games, which they'd seen at that cinema and loved. I wasn't really interested, my free time was so limited (assignments due and not well and surviving on probably too much Mersyndol) and so i was on the internet and not paying that much attention and it didn't really make much of an impression on me.

I figured I may as well listen to them while driving. And discovered, unsurprisingly, that there's so much more to the story - darker and more complex. I was intrigued enough to keep listening at home on the weekend while I was keeping Bunny company while she was cleaning her room. Sunday arvo I was too knackered to study, went to have a nap but couldn't sleep, so ended up just having a lie down while keeping on listening (Bunny's idea, she came and joined me)

We're about half way through the next one now, Catching Fire, and I made everyone watch the movie last night. Like the first one, it's a really good adaptation, but can't hope to capture the detail that really gives the story its depth.

Also, I really think Katniss should get to keep both Peeta and Gale. I've seen there's a few threesome fics on AO3 and am itching to read them but i am being strong and waiting til I've read the third book. I am horribly afraid that it's inevitable that one of the guys is going to die.

I caught the last hour or so of the Hunger Games movie on TV the other day and thought it a really good adaption of the book - but even so, I agree with you, the books are better.

I read them so long ago though that I can't really judge their age-appropriateness. I was thinking of getting my eldest niece the books, or at least the first one, for her upcoming eleventh birthday. Do you think them/it suitable?

Gah, sorry about the delayed response, I just reread it and took in the 'upcoming birthday' bit, so, sorry!

It's okay. :)

did you end up getting her the book? I found them darker than the films, so I'd be interested to hear what she made of it.

Yeah. Her mother told me yesteday that Adaline is nearing the end of the first book and finding it updownputable in between complaints of finding it 'intense OMG!' I think she'll survive. :D
