This show is awesome at ripping your guts out type drama, I have to say. Part of me reckons that would be an awesome way to end the series because I love me the high drama, but really it wouldn’t be, leaving the case unsolved, the story half told. And of course, keeping the series going but replacing Beckett would be UNACCEPTABLE. Ha, what if she’s wearing a bulletproof vest (be stupid not to, really). AWK-WARD.
I am not overly impressed with the climax though, I think they sacrificed characterisation for dramatic impact. I get that Beckett’s upset, I do, but she has spent a hell of a lot of her life upset and angry, and I do NOT believe she would just fall apart and allow her friend and mentor get killed. Seriously, all it would have taken was her backing Montgomery up from behind the window and she could have taken the assassin dude OUT. Stupid, stupid writing.
Also, I was weirdly conflicted about Castle being able to just haul Beckett out like that and then physically restrain her against the car. On one hand, Castle is so mild-mannered that he makes you forget just what a big man Nathan Fillion is, but on the other hand, again, Beckett’s a highly trained officer, I fail at believing she’s fallen apart to the extent that she couldn’t have freed herself.
