Not last minute or anything, but I can't make it to Swancon. If anyone knows someone who hasn't bought their ticket yet, and would rather have it half price, please send 'em my way.
Thanks sweetie, I'm fine, just swamped with uni homework. I'd probably be able to keep up better if I could manage to stay awake on weeknights to do readings. *sigh*
Community Development is a black hole of crushing despair.
What the hell kind of way is this to run a unit?
I don't know about internals but us externals got given a huge reading list, told to just read whatever and hand some journals in in week 8 for 50% of the mark, and then sit an exam at the end of semester worth the other 50%.
No. Other. Contact. Oh wait. I did get a note last week saying my tutor had changed, but since my first tutor had never even contacted me to say hi (nor has the new one), it really hasn't made any difference to me.
OMG! The pain is shared! 2 hrs, no content! and given the vagueness of the reading list, you can't even skip them! I *HEAR YOU* - Jennie as a tutor is nice (still quiet) but when I emailed her yesterday about crushing deadlines she was kind enough to allow me the extra weekend (maybe worth an email in your case too). Also, I am happy to share my journal thingy with you (what little of it there is at present) or read yours. *loves* It is *such* a painful unit to do externally.
I am determined to do nothing else except get these damn journals done this weekend. I haven't done much reading so far, partly because my other unit is completely the opposite, two out of three assignments handed in so far, and also interesting content-heavy lectures and readings, and partly because the COD readings so far have been deadly dull and wishywashy.
I am dreading starting. Hence LJ *sigh*
I can't afford to ask for deadlines on anything - I actually have to catch up and then try to get ahead because Cricket, Trille, Zebra and I are roadtripping up north during the last two weeks of semester. I'll be studying in the car and then coming back to exams.
Oh, I thought you were internal. I thought you at least had that to make it a bit better.
Happy to read your journals if you want me to. I'll see how I go with mine - I may just want to burn them in a pit of lava by Tuesday or I may just be so sick of them I never want to look at them again.
In conclusion, AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRFUCKINGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH.
Will send what i have now so you can see what i've been doing - these are first drafts (and not looking like they'll be polished more. Struggling with the Meekosha reading *ridiculously* and yes with the wishy washy and omg so annoying! We get awesome readings with Pop Culture and the Everyday, also really enjoying Critical and Creative Thinking. I be that internal would be better with this unit - but only doing one internal and that's Pop Culture (and *loving it*) Hope seeing the drafts of mine helps a little. I haven't been able to get feedback from Jennie which is a shame as knowing whether I'd done *enough* or *not enough* or *too much* would be great right about now. Also, car studying is good - and fun, you have a captive audience to read things too, and conversational studying sticks better I find :)
I can't read them now - first of all, I haven't done enough readings to even know what you're talking about, and secondly, I should probably do my equivalent ones first so I don't risk copying yours. Can I try for Monday? We can talk about them after you've finished Swancon?
No, she's not ignoring me - she did give me the extension. But no feedback. Which I am sad about because especially for external students, this makes a huge difference - in a subject like this, it may see me continue to want to engage.
What actually happened? did you send her something and ask her if you were on the right track and she said she couldn't answer? or did she not answer at all?
Have you considered introducing topics to discuss on the "discussions board"? Seriously, how hard would it have been for them to allocate 10% of our mark to online discussions??
I suggest a follow up email explaining that you're new to studying and still finding your way and that you're feeling a bit lost and is she able to provide any advice, as per your previous request.
It's more than likely she's just overlooked that email, or meant to answer it later and forgot. Given how crap the communication and guidance is for this unit, she's probably had heaps of emails from students!
Screw it. she should have at least acknowledged your question. would you feel up to calling her up and asking if she's allowed to give you feedback or not? You know, between 2am and 2.07am on the second Tuesday of the full moon, or whenever her contact hours are?
Well that sucks. I'm stuck at work for most of the weekend - was so busy learning the new system and hoping the other job would call me in that I didn't get around to applying for leave.
My plan is to head in at least for dinner with people, possibly Sunday. I vote for you wandering by at some point :)
