That's a high percentage. I didn't realise it was that high in Perth. What's going to happen to all these people in these houses when the sea rises over the next 50 years? There's been a report issued in Victoria in the last year that basically effectively bans further development in areas of Victoria at a certain sea level. Think maybe this needs to happen in WA? Doubt it will - it'll impede growth, which no government wants to happen.

Sorry, watching Dr Who. Didn't read that it was 35% of Australia's population. *note to self: read things more thoroughly before commenting*

However, the same comments still apply.

Yes exactly.

Personally, we're planning on moving inland.

We've done exactly that. We now live at 506m above sea level. And our next move will be to above 700m :D

What an exceptionally depressing picture. There's hardly anything I find more depressing than land clearing for housing!

Exactly! Except then [livejournal.com profile] caitlen pointed out that it'll all be underwater soon anyway, so that's nice.

so that's nice.

That was a good laugh!

Unfortunately I don't think rising water levels will take care of all the development out my way.

What does "along the coast" mean exactly? What distance is in your definition?

CSIRO says >80% of Australia's population resides within 50 km of the coast, so I'd guess the 35% is within 10-20km of the coast??
