Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Unintended Okay, there's a reason this is one of the most popular cliches in K/S fic, it's because when it's done well, it's the greatest Kirk/Spock love story EVER OMG.

This is old-school K/S, when Captain Kirk was young and golden and passionate and Spock was repressed and confused and fighting his human nature and against all odds are BFF and the best command team in the fleet and oh, are totally devoted to each other. And that's just the canon.

There are four more K/S fics on her page here. I haven't read them all yet (more K/S omg so happy) but I have read Only Logical, where they're older and teach at Starfleet and I really enjoyed it for the supporting alien character and the pace of it and for Kirk finally getting a clue. Fics set when they're older are never my preference, simply because I don't much like the way Kirk was written in the movies, as though he was getting old and his life was over.

Kirk/Spock was my first fandom, many, many years ago, when I would borrow the fanzines from the local Star Trek club library and wondered what the cryptic references to K/S were and investigated - and obviously never looked back. I still have the zines I bought at stupid prices from over East and from the US. The writing from that time is so dated now. I mean, these people were pioneers. But our perceptions of gay sex and relationships and how we write them has totally changed.

Oh god it's dawn. I went to bed before 11pm and woke up at 2am and thought I may as well set something to download and [livejournal.com profile] cimness had made some offhand reference about Clark/Lex being one of her OTPs and i just went to her site just to look...

Oh god, Bunny will be awake very shortly, and I promised her I'd play with her this morning. I'm an idiot - clearly I should never make promises.

Oh, yes. I didn't "see" Kirk/Spock at first, because I was too young to think like that when I started watching the show, but I've come to really love K/S slash. I've read the ones you link above, but if you find more good ones, I hope you'll link to those too. I've tried trawling archives but wasn't finding enough stuff I liked that way.

Fics set when they're older are never my preference, simply because I don't much like the way Kirk was written in the movies, as though he was getting old and his life was over.

And he and Spock don't seem to stay together, either... I'm not up on the details of the later canon, Generations-era, but it seems like they just sort of end up doing other things and lose sight of each other. Which means the best years of their lives were that five-year mission -- it's kind of tragic. [livejournal.com profile] killabeez (I think it was) made this vid that really summed up that contrast for me -- gorgeous -- no longer available, sadly.

Anyway, I've seen a few fics that try to explain how they were always aware of each other and Spock tracked Kirk down and found him again, which is cool, but in general I just pretend the later movies didn't happen.

I've probably got the vid, though I don't know which one you mean. My favourite one of hers is 'Closer', I still think it's one of the best vids I've ever seen.

*handwave* I haven't watched the movies for years but I never had the impression that they weren't together.

This is what I remember (and if I'm wrong I don't want to know *g*)

Kirk and Spock bond sometime between Amok Time and the next 7 year cycle, obviously, since Spock DOES NOT DIE.

1st movie - Spock's gone off to do Kolinar, whatever, remove all emotion. Clearly, Kirk has fucked up big time. Either by cheating (it didn't mean anything, really, you were away and I missed you) or something else, maybe just some midlife/marriage crisis.
By the end of the movie they've made up.

Movie 2 - Spock dies OH NOES Kirk is broken.

Movie 3 - Kirk moves heaven and earth to save Spock's soul and WINS HIM BACK.

Next bunch of movies - I have the impression that they're both based on Earth teaching.

Last movie. Kirk dies. Oh noes.

Next Gen - Picard attends Spock's wedding. I am carefully not checking the timeline and assuming that this is 7 years later.

SEE???

I can't remember the wording of the appropriate response off the top of my head but I think it goes something like "I am interested in your philosphy and would like to subscribe to your newsletter."

Oops. I could claim to have been studying earlier in the evening before I went to bed. But it would be A LIE.

I still have the rest of the weekend!!!

This does not mean you can spend the whole day gardening.

Cool, just read 'Intended' and loved it like whoa. I also think that Closer is one of the best vids evah evah. Have you read [livejournal.com profile] amireal's SGA crossover story? http://www.amireal.com/Physics1.htm It brought me into the K/S fold :)

That's my very favourite Star Trek story, not that I've read a huge amount. I just reread it recently when Cathy recced a different story of hers in her slashcon rec post.

*stares at you in betrayed disbelief*

Maybe when you have time you could please do a recs post of your favourite fics so that others can share the joy. You could start with Star Trek.

See, I wouldn't consider I'm familiar enough with ST to rec anything in it.

That story is on lots of recs lists, though, which is how I found it!

Yes but I hardly ever look at rec lists, and I'm always more interested in reading recs by my friends anyway.
