Jody - Have you seen American Gothic?
Me - Yes, why?
Jody - Is it any good?
Me - It's AWESOME.
Jody - Do you have it?
Me - No, but I'm sure I can source it for you.
Jody *changes subject*

Later that day she showed up at my work and gave me the dvd.

Jody - I bought it for you! I was just being sneaky!

We are watching it now, and I'm impressed - it hasn't dated at all.

American Gothic is one of those shows with iconic imagery - the dead sister with Someone's at the door and the kid in the striped t-shirt. That kid that played Caleb is all grown up now. Freaky!

Old promo

Very cool vid, recaps the pilot episode.

Hee! People keep trying to defy Sheriff Buck. I'm keep shouting 'Just do what he says OMG!!!'

The dead sister grows up to be the character in Studio 60 that everyone hated but me.

I only ever saw the pilot. It didnt' grab me.

I recognise her as the holographic scientist on Miranda in Serenity.

The pilot's the best episode I've seen, bar a two-parter with John Goodman.

Do you mean it's the best pilot you've seen, or the best episode of that show?

Best episode of that show. I think (off the top of my head) the best pilots I've ever seen are:

- Doctor Who
- Lost
- The West Wing
- The Shield
- Star Trek: Voyager

Not really inspiring me to watch the rest of the show, then.

Life on Mars had a good pilot, it just didn't come immediately to mind as a great one when I wrote my last reply.

Damages is a recent very brilliant pilot.

Oh totally, but that doesn't stop it being an amazing piece of television.

When it was airing, I wasn't allowed to watch it because it was (according to my parents) too scary and grown-up for me, so I haven't seen more than promos.

(They were probably right. I mean I still have to have that rule about watching SPN either in daylight or with other people.)
