Seatbelts, people!
Apr. 28th, 2004 11:18 pmSomeone's gone and lent us first season 'Starsky and Hutch' on DVD. That car certainly gets a lot of screentime.
Emma suggested the other day that the '70s had different standards of attractiveness, as she found both the actors in the show to be Very Unattractive Men.
(Which considering how female standards of beauty constantly change - anyone remember that Dawn French skit where she's the pampered Renaissance artist's model, and Kate Moss is her scrawny unattractive servant?)
Having now been exposed to more classic S&H within a short space of time than I would have thought possible - even taking in to account my regularly ducking out to, oh, hang out washing, check email, wash up, check email, go to the shops for milk, check my Friends page etc I have to admit I am - sort of - developing an appreciation for Hutch. It must be some sort of defence mechanism/survival instinct thing kicking in. He does possess very long shapely legs and an extremely nice bum. And many pairs of tight pants that show off both of these attributes to advantage.
But what's with Starsky's hair? I swear, that perm takes up two thirds of the screen at any given time.
But much can be forgiven of a guy, who when being given the come on by a girl, and his partner calls him 'Angel', smiles sheepishly at the girl, drops her hand, explains simply 'my partner', and goes running.
Cool.

Date: 2004-04-28 10:53 pm (UTC)I want to see the episode "The Fix". Is it 1st season? Have seen screencaps & read fic based on it but need the source material.
Any chance it might be screening at your place late on Sunday??
I agree that the whole 70's look can be a bit cringeworthy - though personally I find Hutch's hair to be more offputting than Starsky's, and their attitude towards women vastly more offputting yet! But as you say, all can be forgiven if there's a sufficient amount of slashiness.

You tease! You always promise to stay late, but you never do. If putting on S&H will entice you stay, I'm sure we can oblige.

I don't think you're thinking of 1st season cos it's really short and inoffensive, and shows off his amazing blue eyes.

Ah yes, that offensive sleazy sexism that strangely enough doesn't win them the girls. Smokescreen, anyone? Cos you know, they don't seem surprised or upset everytime they get rejected, just go on home to dinner together, or out to an Italian restaurant for dinner together, etc.

Date: 2004-04-29 03:30 am (UTC)Ben, attractive? There's a novel thought, but still, very cute pairing :)
I don't think Owen's portrayal is anything like the show, but Hutch was so laid back I think they had to change the character to make him funny, unlike Ben who only had to exaggerate Starsky's mannerisms.
Suddenly I think I'm an expert...
