Interesting article about censorship in America here. The last line gave me goosebumps, and not in a good way.

If they pass that bill - and, depressingly, I rather expect that it will be passed, in some slightly watered-down form - the entertainment industry as we know it will fall down with a boom. I can't believe that America's primary concern at the moment seems to be with what two consenting adults do in bed and how that effects their apparently utopian heterosexual, two parent, upper middle class family.

Depressingly, this is far from the first article that I've seen that references similarities between present-day America and mid-1930s Germany, with pointed comments about how things can escalate. And really, I don't think that they're too far from the truth. I was accosted the other day in a craft store for wearing a teeshirt that said Provincetown on the front - it's a famously liberal city on the east coast. First one of the employees stopped me to tell me about how she 'made the mistake of taking [her] two kids there'. Then I was asked to leave the store because my shirt was upsetting people.

My shirt. That had one non-offensive word on it. Because it makes people think about homosexuals and how the evil gay is taking over the world and threatening all those god-fearing straight people. I only wish that I was joking.

(Also, god. Hi. First time that I comment in your journal, and I go all ranty? This is not a good sign. So sorry.)
