Must. not. succumb. to the. badness.
May. 4th, 2006 01:39 amSo Boston Legal, huh. Watched an episode back when it started, cos, hello? James Spader. But his character was unprincipled and not nice and I didn't watch it again til Iast week, when I happened over an ep where his character was having night terrors and wanted someone to come and sleep with him to stop him plunging from his balcony. And in the end it was William Shatner's character who was sleeping over and then coincidently I read an interview with Spader where he talks about spooning with Shatner and what he smelled like and by god I hope it was tongue in cheek and then I just caught the end of this week's ep and he's still sleeping over and just then I was wandering through a random lj and they were linking to Alan/Denny slash, which I of course went and read even though it took me two fics to work out which character was which and I'd just like to say that reading slash about a 70 year old William Shatner character is just wrong on so many levels and now my brain is broken and also when did James Spader's face become so weirdly puffed up?

Btw, Alan isn't unprincipled. He's actually surprisingly principled and compassionate, but he's very good at his job, which means he's an asshole in court when he needs to be, and can win cases he doesn't agree with that the firm has forced him to take.

Date: 2006-05-03 06:29 pm (UTC)Okay, I'll take your word for it. *g* The ep I saw had him defend his best mate who was charged with murdering his wife, and somehow in court he twisted the friend's relationship with his mother. I think, I can't really remember, but the scene that stuck with me was the end where he was celebrating with his friend in their old tree house and stumbles over where the friend had stashed the murder weapon.
It does seem very crack-ish. I could swear that Shatner's character made a comment like 'I can act. I won an Emmy!' I hadn't been paying close attention but that made me double take and wonder whether we were supposed to take the show seriously at all.
Tell me about the fishing trip!

BL is a show that's very hard to pigeonhole. There's lots of silliness and in-jokes (like the one about Shatner winning an Emmy), but they also deal with cases that rip out your heart and stomp on it. That's one of the reasons I love it so much: it's unlike anything I've ever seen.

There's a pretty good recap here:

The scene where Alan woke up in Denny's bed was freaking *priceless*.

Date: 2006-05-04 03:36 am (UTC)Alan Shore is not unprincipled. He's Differently Principled. I dearly love his mischievous and lascivious antics; usurping hypocritical peoples' propriety and self-righteous authoritarity all over the place.
I'm saving up the sleepwalking episode for the weekend, but the "Finding Nimmo" one where they go on a fishing trip is gold. They even go on about Klingons, and of course the (not) having sex with each other. Quite cracked. But also very touching, in that Alan reveals his grief and loneliness at losing Tara and the two men have a bonding experience. Of sorts.
I have also been wondering about James Spader's face. Indeed it seems, along with his middle, to have gotten a bit off-puttingly puffy. Not so much in a naturally-aging-man-living-the-good-life way, but in a slightly NQR way. But he's still so delightfully wickedly sexy. Even, dare I say it, in a flamingo costume. Yep, I'm a devotee.
