I was looking at my itinerary and thinking, hey what are we going to do in Florida for four whole days??? I was vaguely thinking about The Keys, but that's a long way from Orlando...so I had a look. *headdesk* Disneyworld's in Orlando! Who knew? And UNIVERSAL STUDIOS - not just in LA! Seaworld! Busch Gardens!

Yes, I am seriously that ignorant oblivious. In my defense, my lack of interest in theme parks is due to the fact that I go into an environment of crowds and heat and noise, I guarantee I come away with a migraine.

I was looking at this place http://www.hostelsweb.com/hostelsweb.com/hostel.php?HostelNumber=1832 to stay in SF. I am totally new to this booking online ahead of time thing, so if anyone has any advice, or recs, I'd be grateful. (My last experience was backpacking around the UK, where I'd just call ahead from the youth hostel I was staying at to the hostel in the next town I wanted to visit.)

Hey! I can hook you up with stuff to do in Orlando -- we lived there for seven years. It's not all about The Attractions (as we referred to the Sea World, Disney, Universal stuff...) but I have good tips about them, too.

Also? Though The Keys are far from Orlando, the Canaveral National Seashore is only about an hour away, and it's a gorgeous stretch of uncluttered, uncrowded shoreline. If you're going to the Space Center, you'll be very close.

Let's talk. :)

Oh, YAY!!!!

I thought I might do one of them, like Sea World, or Universal, which is better fun? (less claustrophobic?) Or maybe Wet'n'Wild for water slides - our original plan had included going to Cleveland for Cedar Park, but then we thought we couldn't justify visiting an entire state just to go on rides *g* We don't have ANYTHING like that here.

Re The Canaveral National Seashore, is it just the shoreline? I don't mean to sound jaded, but I live here http://www.australianexplorer.com/photographs/wa_landscape_perth_beaches.htm, so if it's something I have here, I'd rather do Universal, or museums! Museums are good!

My 2.2 cents worth (GST inclusive)

I thought Universal Orlando was actually better than Universal in LA, fwiw. I *heart* the Back To The Future ride.

Sea World you can do on the Gold Coast, if you ever get over that way again.

I don't recommend EPCOT unless you absolutely run out of things to do.

And don't forget that theme parks in the US are big. DW is especially massive. There's what amounts to a freeway inside the place, since it comprises Magic Kingdom (much like DisneyLand), Epcot, Disney-MGM, plus water parks and an animal park.

If you move quickly and there aren't many people around and you don't care about the kiddie parts, you can do Magic Kingdom and Disney-MGM in a day. If you want to see any significant amount of any of the other DW parks, that's another day. Then there's Universal. (... though it may not be worth doing both that and Disney-MGM. ... dunno which is better.) And getting over to Busch Gardens in Tampa is definitely worth it and another full day gone.

That SF hostel looks good. SF accommodation prices are outrageously high, so that looks a great option.

Hey thanks for the input on the hostel :) Now to check out Orlando...

I think I might just do Universal. I'm not a big fan of Disney.

Thanks for the info. we only have 3.5 days there, I'm pretty anti Disney, so I'm thinking Universal Studios/WetnWild, the Everglades tour, and Astronaut training. Jody plans to spend the entire time themeparking though!
