Me - Yeah, hi, you've been highly recommended to me and I bet you're really popular and are booked up for ages!
Receptionist - Yes, we are. HOWEVER, you are really lucky because we've just had someone cancel and I can fit you in at 1.30pm tomorrow.
Me - I CAN'T POSSIBLY MENTALLY PREPARE MYSELF FOR VISITING THE DENTIST BY TOMORROW.
Receptionist *sounding amused* I understand. However, if you could possibly mentally prepare yourself by tomorrow, we can fit you in.
Me *clutches at straws* Oh no, I'm afraid it's way too short notice to arrange the time off work.
Receptionist *not sounding like she believes me for a second* How about mid-October? Is that time enough to mentally prepare yourself?
