I have had numerous conversations with people over the years along the lines of:
Friend - You should try this new computer game!
Me - No thanks, I don't play computer games.
Friend - You'll like this one, it's AWESOME.
Me *tactfully* I'm sure I would. Only, I have obsessive tendencies, and I don't have enough time for all the things I'm already addicted to.
Friend - Why don't you just try it once?
Me - GOD, what part of no don't you understand?
Friend *is crushed*
So on Friday lunchtime I drag
cricketk off to JB's to pick up my reserved copy of 'Life on the Murder Scene' As I wait in line I see Cricket has wandered over to where some boys are playing a computer game and is staring transfixed. Uh oh, I think. I wait in line some more. Finally I buy the dvd and wander over to Cricket, steadfastly ignoring the Smallville on sale for $30 (I'm regretting that now) I wait. I stare. I start taking photos on my phone.
Eventually:
Cricket - What?
Me - I can leave you here if you like. Only what do I tell people if they ask me why you didn't go back to work?
Cricket *pouts* *reluctantly unslings the guitar*
Me - What was that anyway?
Cricket - Guitar Hero OMG!!!
Me - Oh yes you've mentioned that a few times. I've never seen it.
Cricket - You should come over and play it!
Me - We've had this conversation.
Cricket - You are
making me come over tomorrow and watch your My Chemical Romance emo boys, so you
have to come over and play Guitar Hero on Sunday.i>
Me - Um.
GUITAR HERO 2 ROCKS!!
See, the thing about Guitar Hero is it's not about the computer game, it's about
ROCKING OUT WITH A GUITAR. Oh, come on. EVERYBODY secretly wants to do this.
And then after awhile
juffles and
ascetic_hedony appeared and there was chips and BEER and they sat behind us and googled lyrics and sang very loudly and offkey to distract us, and then we swapped and did the same to them, only my knowledge of heavy metal music is sadly lacking so I didn't even know the tunes at all, though I'd had enough beer by then to give it a go anyway *winces at the memory* and now I've suddenly got Black Sabbath, Janes Addiction and Lamb of God downloaded on my iPod.
No really.
WTF? If you scroll down you can listen to a sample. I suggest 'Laid to Rest' - that's the one Cricket and I were playing.
AND IT WAS FUN.
