I just attempted to copy and paste a polished version of a fic for a challenge, only to find that for some reason it's picked up one of my italicise tags early in the fic and repeat it all the rest of the way through the fic between every paragraph break. so that I've ended up with <p><i> words</i></p>

I tried the c&p from both Word and googledocs, same result.

It's quite a decent length and picking them all out individually is going to be very frustrating.

Edit: It was user error, because of course it was, AO3 is awesome.

I think I'd have to see it to work out what's up with it for you. Can you e-mail me the section where it all starts going wrong?

Might there be a missing or a repeated without an extra somewhere, or could it be that (on AO3) the posting form is set to accept Rich Text rather than HTML?

(I think I had the same thing happen to me a few times, and sometimes it was one of these. The times it wasn't, I think I ended up c&ping the AO3 text back into a new Word document and then running a Find and Replace [with nothing] on all the tags involved, pasting the resulting document back in and then adding the tags back in, which was maybe a little bit less frustrating than picking them all out individually.)

Glad to hear [you figured it out]! And ack, looks like I might need to study up on DW coding, because that comment certainly got a bit over-italicized where I'd just meant i's with thingies around them to show up.

Ugh, I've been hit by this one a few times -- it's one tiny little incorrect italics tag somewhere, that then from the reader's end removes all italics after it (or italicises everything, depending on the mistake) and adds all that extra bumpf to the poster-facing end.

If you have access to the original text, awesome, fix the borked italics tag, C&P the entirety of the fic, and you're good to go. If not (as I have a couple of times, cos reasons?) find italics tags with spaces around them replace with [nothing], worked a slightly fiddly but relatively quick treat. <3
