I haven't rewatched Army of Darkness in many years, but at one time it was fave that I regularly quoted from. I still wear the t-shirt. And Bruce Campbell has continued to be good value. So when I saw they'd finally made a series I was pretty happy. Am now watching Ash vs Evil Dead and it is...actually pretty much what you'd expect. The same cheesy horror and Ash apparently has had no personal growth, is the same crass idiot he was before, "now an aging lothario who has successfully avoided responsibility, maturity and heinous villains for the past 30 years".

Apparently I don't find that as hilarious as once I did. When his sidekick is sad that the girl he likes drives off without him (to take care of her family), Ash says 'I know it's not a very PC thing to say these days, but chicks are like that.' I wasn't going to watch past the pilot but then the next ep started and it turns out they're only 27 minutes long and I'm still sitting her typing and Lucy Lawless has just turned up, the rest of the diverse cast are likeable.

Oh, ha, apparently I still find some of it funny. Ash has just smashed his work colleague's mother in the face with his rifle assuming she'll transform into a demon, but she doesn't and everyone is horrified, and of course as they are berating him, she rises as a demon, and as everyone gasps in horror, Ash is like 'Oh good, I was starting to feel like a dick'.

Ha, they're about to summon a demon and are trying to pick a relatively weak one from the book-
Summoner *points to one* this one preys on the emotionally and spiritually weak
The camera *focuses pointedly on Ash's face*
Ash - Eh, it can do that on its own time

And then when it appears, Ash is like 'firstly, you look nothing like your picture, you might want to update that'

Yeah, it's growing on me.

(Ooh AoD full movie is on youtube)
