Bunny has seen a couple of episodes of Swort Art Online and is very...passionate... about my acquiring the show for her, because it's AWESOME. Apparently.

Given my general ignorance of anime I did a quick 'suitable for children' google, and it seemed okay...except there's a non-graphic rape??? Am I being too protective in not wanting my 13 year old to watch this? (esp considering I was reading adult books at that age *sigh*)

Another quick google for anime for kids suggests Sailor Moon is the bestest ever, so I'll get that.

Any other suggestions? Does anyone on my flist even watch anime?

Depending on age:

Card Captor Sakura is child safe but has some scary bits - Sakura is capturing magical cards and sometimes the magical cards fight back in scary ways (but it always ends up okay in the end). Sakura is ...11? maybe. No sexual content, no violence other than the cards, and all the adults are loving and supportive.

"Sakura was a normal fourth-grader until she stumbled upon the book of Clow Cards in her father's library. After accidentally setting the magical cards loose, it's now up to Sakura to catch them all again before they wreak havoc on the entire world! Luckily, she has her best friend Tomoyo, and Kerberos, the guardian of the cards, to help her."

Also:

Avatar the last airbender - 10 and up, because quite a bit of fighting

Ponyo - sweet affectionate film, the scary bit is limited to a big storm which works out okay
"An animated adventure about a five-year-old boy and his relationship with a goldfish princess who longs to become a human."

The Secret World of Arrietty (2010)
"The Clock family are four-inch-tall people who live anonymously in another family's residence, borrowing simple items to make their home. Life changes for the Clocks when their daughter, Arrietty, is discovered."

seconding Avatar: Last Airbender, if she hasn't seen it. We might possibly have *all* of it, available for loan.

My kids really like Ranma 1/2, which we have the first season of, and were reasonably entertained by Astro Boy. Ranma 1/2 is a bit dated, but still funny.

Ok, I fail at reading comprehension - I missed the part where she was 13.

In which case Avatar is definately ok. No sexual content or sexual violence,

a fair bit of combat violence but it all ends up ok in the end.

Also: since she's 13,

Spirited Away (2001)
In the middle of her family's move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and monsters; where humans are changed into animals; and a bathhouse for these creatures.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245429/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Some scary bits, some sad bits, after quite a lot of bravery and determination, everyone gets a happy ending and the girl rescues her parents (who have been magically changed into pigs.)

No sexual content, the only threat/danger is being magically transformed.

I think Inuyasha might be good for a girl her age: Japanese schoolgirl time-travels back to feudal Japan and meets demons and other fantastical beings.

ETA: I just remembered the Miyazaki movie, Howl's Moving Castle.

I have feels about this but I really don't know how to word them. I feel like better to introduce content to watch with her and talk through the difficult stuff?
