There's a show I saw only the pilot of, and now sporadically follow solely from reading reaction posts from one fan on my flist. And since her posts usually consist of squeeing about the canon het pairing, I don't really hear much about the plot developments. Except now they've just found out that some character I don't know used to bang her brother, and now this girl and her flist are like WHY IS INCEST EVERYWHERE NOW OMG ELEVENTYONE!!!11! So, my question is, are they reacting to us dirty slashers and our freaky Wincest specifically, or is incest the new black?

It's the new black.
We have Weasley Twincest, Wincest, Boromir/Faramir, Numbers, and so many others, het and slashy.

Yeah, so I only know the slashy ones. But when you have movies like 'Say it isn't so' (with the premise being that a guy just finds out that his fiance may be his sister), incest is just out there (and apparently, played for laughs).

It's the new black.

Yeah, for slashers. I meant, is it cropping up canonically, and if so, why aren't I watching these shows? *eg*

Well, the first canon sibling-incest (het) pairing I know of on television was back in 1988 with the Profitt arc of "Wiseguy," so it's not exactly a new thing. *g* (In case you're not familiar with it, it was Kevin Spacey and Joan Severance as a brother-and-sister pair who were...unusually close. *koff*)

Don't forget the Petrellis on Heroes & now all FOUR Donnelly brothers on The Black Donnellys. Just to round things out... ;)

What's the show you've seen one of?

I think partly the increase in canonic brotherly intimacy is something like a progression of the buddy/cop pairing. Its another excuse to have men getting touchy-feely-angsty together. And of course they couldn't possibly be gay because they're brothers.

When its brother/sister, well I don't know, maybe been there for a while. Narnia springs to mind. But maybe its more noticeable at the moment because of the many brother slashy texts.

Certainly the brothers thing is big nowadays. Prison Break yay! I love that in PB and SPN they also have the added clause of being outside of normal society and having thrown away any semblance of a normal life. When you're on the lam and death is nigh, you really need to blow off some of that tension... so to speak.
