Advice on antivirus software?

sarrenOh, hey, advice, please? What is the best free antivirus software, or should we not trust any free ones??
Chose to spend the afternoon of the first day of 2013 watching 2012,* an apocalypse movie where the earth’s crust destabilises and the world is DOOMED. After 20 minutes discovered a strong urge for a lot of alcohol, and after that the film got heaps better!
Afterwards:
Me - I really enjoyed that, but there was one thing that was unbelievable.
Housemates – ONE THING???
Because I know you want to know, the unbelievable part of this film where the whole world ends up underwater and all the world’s leaders** and a chosen few (to rebuild the species), board arks, and there’s a shot of Elizabeth II and her corgis. Yeah, right, an 80+ year old ruler who’s WHOLE LIFE has been about duty, would take up a place on the ark. I don’t think so. What? It’s important.
The highlight of the film for me was Chiwetel Ejiofor. I have a soft spot for him since his tiny role in Love Actually.
*Had I known it was set on 21/12 I would have watched it then.
** Except the noble US President, Danny Glover, who has chosen to remain with his people to the end! and for some reason, the Italian president.
