As much as I've liked every single female companion of the new series so far, everytime there's a remotely promising young guy helps the doctor I forlornly hope that the guy will get the job. Like that cute red cap back in the Sontaran Experiment. Oh wait, he died, of course.

Oh that's right, there was ONE male companion but he didn't last, but he did get his own series!!.

Amy Pond is adorable.

But Rory!!! How would Rory NOT be a GREAT companion. I see he's in most of the upcoming episodes and I am TRUSTING Stephen Moffat for this to not be a repeat of the whole Rose/Mickey thing.

Oh, Mickey? Mickey wasn't a real companion. We know that because he didn't kiss the doctor. Not once. Sorry Mickey, no one gave you the heads up.

Seriously, if the Doctor isn't a sexual being (even if he doesn't act on it), WHY are nearly all his companions young women?

Stephen Moffat, please to be changing this.

I loved Amy. I loved her as little Amelia Pond and then later as kissagram Amy. I also really loved Rory and Jeff. Jeff was so pornastically adorable. And Eleven actually quite liked both boys. I really hope they all have adventures together.

Also, I really do think he would have taken little Amelia for a quick trip and fuck up the timelines. I think Eleven looks at Amy and sees the little 7 year old Amelia (except now she can travel with him).

Oh, I agree, he totally bonded with Amelia - he said something to Amy about bringing back her inner child or something?

And what was that moment at the end where Amelia heard the sound of the TARDIS and looked up, and then the scene changed to Amy sitting up in bed?

Hahaha I forgot Jeff! “Okay guys, let’s do this!”

Well the "cute red cap", aka Christian Cooke has been in two fairly awful Brit shows since - Demons and Trinity.

I vote for Jeff, because he's prettier than Rory - I'm shallow like that. He's also posed (nearly)nude and was in something with Charlie Hunnam aka Nathan from QaF:UK.

Sadly, no more pretty Jeff...so far, anyway.

I try to justify it to myself by saying that a companion is someone the Doctor chooses to take with him. I count three boys - Jack, Mickey, and that guy who he took along who turned out to try to steal future tech - and five girls - Rose, her mother, Martha, Donna and Amy.

But, really, I know that's not the truth. Really the sexism is baked into the Who franchise, with the effectively immortal, incredibly powerful, incredibly wise man and his girl hanger ons.

Not a "new" companion.

I heard something once about a spin off series for the Doctor's daughter, but clearly that never happened.
