I've been wandering through a few posts talking about the episode - which is a new development in fandom obsession for me :)
I find it fascinating how some people seem to be watching a completely different show to me. I mean, I get that people like different things - some people loved the Jack To The Rescue! scene, some people thought it was dumb. Whatever. Some people thought Jack referencing his past as a torturer, and being all threatening-like was scary and intense, others questioned the characterisation, or
Example 1. Owen shoving Gwen against the tree, getting up close and personal. Intense. Hot. Gwen with her hand around his head. Breathing into each other's mouths. *thud* But some people are upset at Owen's 'attempted rape'. omgwtf?
Example 2. Less obvious, I guess. Gwen holding the gun on the police officer. She wavers. Owen shakes his head at her. Seemed pretty clear to me that Owen was saying 'Don't you put that fucking gun down they will fucking kill us'. But other people think it meant 'don't shoot the nice policeman'.
Speaking of which, OMG how badly did she just fuck up! These people are mass murderers, she's fucking SEEN what they've been done to the bodies, her teammates are missing and she puts herself and Owen in their power. If this was real life they'd be DEAD.
Also, for the sake of the world, I have to believe that this Torchwood is just an R&D branch that's having to take on extra work, cos they're a bit shortstaffed atm, and that the main branch is being rebuilt to the original specs, including many WELL TRAINED MILITARY PERSONNEL. Cos, these guys are just hilarious.
Really though, I think it's a mistake to get too heavily invested in trying to take the show seriously. I get so much joy out of watching the many ways they fuck up each week. And, oh the relationship angst. :)
