I haven't actually posted Post 1# yet. It stares at me from its privacy lock. I think its eyes follow me.

Enough about my issues. I persuaded [livejournal.com profile] ravenclaw_harpy, another long, long time Star Trek fan to drive all the way across town to come see Star Trek with me, because I cannot wait til the weekend, when I am, of course, going again.

This time I could take the time to appreciate all the effort they went to to achieve the look that last time just formed part of the whole familiar/new story and characters. Like how brilliantly they achieved the retro look without looking corny or dated. (really shows up how Enterprise (the show) failed). The Enterprise is perfect, and the scene where McCoy and Kirk see her for the first time is just wonderful and it has all the beeps etc that the bridge used to make that we didn't realise we missed, and the sound the communicators make, OMG. And this time I could pay more attention to watching just HOW brilliantly Pine, Quinto, Cho etc had the body language and mannerisms down without coming across as a parody, and at the end when they take the ship out and Sulu turns to smile at the Captain, just like he used to, and then Sulu and Chekov smile at each other, just like they used to, my face was aching from grinning so much.

I'm going again this weekend. WHAT? YOU KNEW I WAS A TREKKIE.

[livejournal.com profile] ravenclaw_harpy came back for coffee afterwards and asked Dragonfly if she'd loved the film...

Dragonfly - Yes and as soon as school holidays start I'm watching the whole series again!
Ravenclaw *gasp* Not Spock’s Brain?
Jen – YES
Me – Not Charlie X?
Jen – YES
Ravenclaw – Not Plato’s Stepchildren?
Jen - YES
Ravenclaw *looks impressed*
Me *looks despairing*

We have plans to go a second time, and made those plans before we left the theatre.

Oh, me too, in that my plans were 'MUST SEE AGAIN AS SOON AS AND AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE'.

It is possible I may be a bit obsessed.

I'm totally going to see it again! *goes all high-pitched*

I loved the landscape when James T is riding in that stolen car; there is this farming countryside, but in the mist are futuristic towers - that is how to do the future so it's believable, all you other CGI films that aren't ST!

I've started rewatching, but I admit to only rewatching the GOOD episodes.

I had a perma-grin on my face throughout the entire movie, and I think it was exactly because of stuff like the sound of communicators, and the small quotes of the original series that ran from beginning to end.

Good luck with the viewing of Plato's Stepchildren, though. And Spock's Brain. I'm totally planning on rewatching, but I'm very much planning on cherrypicking the episodes.

I actually don't find Spock's Brain as unwatchable as the spacy hippy episode, for example.

I don't recall that much persuading going on! Although I was wondering why my arm was so sore - all that twisting, I guess.

So envied you last night. I was heroic - but would have felt guilty and totally not right about going last night. Will definitely be going back to see it again, though.

Thank you soooooo much for the recs. Worked my way through many of them - and enjoyed. Totally loved the vids.

Re my admiration for dragonfly. I might be a wee bit less impressed if I shared the house with her and was forced to endure those wondrous episodes - even if it were only when I was running out of the room, screaming.

*shrug* If she wants me to stay in the room she'll save the really shite ones til I'm at work. I actually find that space hippy one the most excruciating.

Let me know if any my links are dodgy.
