Cool, thought I haven't read anywhere near enough of the famous ones yet.

I really enjoyed Dumas. The many adaptations of his work seem to only take the swashbuckling and adventure but lack his wry humour. The books are funny! And cynical.

For example, the book of The Three Musketeers makes it really clear that the Cardinal is pragmatic and sensible and is working hard for Frances political fortunes, and the King more or less an idiot who is obsessed with hunting, and to a less romantic view of the events the Musketeers are pretty much on the wrong side, which is something I don't ever recall from any of the movies.
