I love 30 Rock, and Alec Baldwin is a big part of that. I didn't like him much the first couple episodes, either, but keep going; he grows on you. Or at least, he grew on me.

Re. his personal life -- all I can say is that your own children can induce levels of rage heretofore unknown, and I'm grateful I don't have a vengeful ex-wife recording me.
