Piccie from his stint in the navy.

You know what was a great movie?

The Defiant Ones was groundbreaking in race relations at the time, whatever, I'm in it for the BFF!!!

Totally, totally agree re. The Defiant Ones. A respectable liberal movie, with UST thick enough that you could cut it with a knife. Loved the black man (sorry, can't remember his name) being gradually more and more open and protective. The shock on his face when Joker chooses to go with the woman. And the shock on Joker's face the moment he realizes that the woman has sent his friend to die in the swamp.

And the lovely scene at the end, after the black man jumps off the train. Joker in his friend's arms, telling him that he'll make someone a fine wife one day. And the defiant song as the law approaches, they have "found their humanity", but they have also sure as hell found each other.

And the running metaphor about the chain being their wedding ring. Love this film unreservedly.

Oh, me too. For all the reasons you said. It's been too many years since I saw it. I have been too passive in getting around to acquiring it, waiting for it turn up on sale. Time to visit Amazon!

Sounds like something I should see. I think Tony Curtis looks better as Danny, though!

I think the naughty glint got bigger and naughtier as he got older.
