When I moved out of home I lived in a flat by myself for about 18 months. Then a friend I met at uni asked me to be her housemate, and I said yes. Not because I wasn't happy by myself, but because I was TOO comfortable. I had my books and my tv in my bedroom and I lived on smoked salmon dip and cheesebiscuits and I stopped going out to parties because it was cozier to stay at home and read my books and watch Star Trek.

It's probably a really, really good thing I didn't have the internet back then.

Now, my obsessiveness is kept in check (shut up) by all my real life responsibilies.

Early January, when everything was about Torchwood they came up with [livejournal.com profile] vintagemilitary and I was SO EXCITED, and Dragonfly and Bunny went away and I had a WHOLE WEEK where I had no other claims on my free time and I wrote 3000 words of a plotty Torchwood/Keen Eddie fic AND another chapter of a Keen Eddie story I'd abandoned the year before and then I realised I was BORED with the whole thing and needed a break, which interestingly, I'd recently read an article in which a lot of professional writers said they didn't enjoy writing which made me stop thinking wistfully of Roads Not Taken, and so I thought I'd take a break from the fic for a while and then there was SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL and I forgot all about it.

On Saturday night, I was happily fandom-leaping from fic to fic from the links on [livejournal.com profile] misspamela's posts about AU's, and I found this REGENCY ROMANCE OMG - an SGA AU and I stayed up most of the night reading it and then Sunday my brain was All John and Rodney, All The Time - watching songvids and rereading my favourite fics.

At some point about Sunday lunchtime I suddenly remembered that the [livejournal.com profile] vintagemilitary deadline is on the 15th and I knew that there was NO WAY I could even think about trying to finish the fic because ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT that day was SGA, and then after that I'd have to work Monday and Tuesday.

No time!

Today, I worked. I don't have either the time, or the internet access to think about fandom* there so on the way home suddenly my brain was like, hey, remember Torchwood, you liked that show, you work good with deadlines, the fic's not due til Thursday, probably only need another couple of thousand words, so what if you have a doubleshift tomorrow, there's always Wednesday night and Thursday morning, it's not like [livejournal.com profile] zebra363 has anything more important to do than drop everything to last-minute beta stuff.**

*headdesk*

Also, I have a NEW RESOLUTION. I always have good intentions when it comes to posting about RL stuff, but quite often my brain is so eaten up by fandom that I just can't spare the energy. Though I can apparently post relentlessly about Smallville, or, you know, whatever. So, my plan is for every fannish squee, I have to also try to post something RL, even if it's just a line or two - though this is contingent on me actually having something to say, in case you were wondering, I'm not going to suddenly spam you with posts about what I had for lunch. Oh wait, I do that already. Oops.

*resolutely does not think about Captain Jack Harkness*

*Except on Saturdays when me and a 16 year old fanboy hide in the kitchen and talk a million miles a minute about Star Trek and Heroes and Atlantis and everybody else looks at us out of the corners of their eyes and steer clear.

**Go check out [livejournal.com profile] zebra363's brand new baby alpaca, it's the CUTEST THING EVER.

I'm doing a little contract accounting job at someone's place Wed night and am at a fringe benefits tax seminar on Thurs. :(

I haven't been in a fannish obsessive phase for ages and I quite miss it! Reading about somebody else's is the next best thing!

*waves idly*

I have no plans for Wednesday night. I could have a look - as long as you don't expect zebra-like levels of attention to grammar.

Hey sweet. Thanks for the offer, but it's like 9.30pm already, aren't you just about sleeping?

Er... I was asleep on the lounge at 9.30pm - and now I am in bed just about to go to sleep again.

So Um. Yes. My sleeping habit is getting in the way!

Darling, why beat yourself up over obsessiveness? If it makes you happy, then it can only be a good thing, right?

That said, yes, do please post more about RL! I am greedy for your posts in any which way they come! *hugs you*
