So asked my dog-washer on finding out I'm 34 years old. (From a discussion on whether I'm too young to take up line-dancing). After expressing a gratifying amount of surprise *beam* this nearly 40 year old completely straightfaced asked me this. After incredulously staring at him for a while I pointed out calmly that as I have a career, a house and a child, what do I need to be married for.

Thankfully for both our sakes he wasn't willing to bring up the sex aspect. Mind you, his response "Good point" may have had something to do with his marriage having recently fallen apart, and subsequently him up on assault charges, having come home one day to find his wife with another man. He knocked the guy's teeth out on the first punch and then knocked him off a step on the second, resulting in a broken ankle and concussion. I certainly was not about to point out that the person he should be directing his anger at is his wife...

But how RUDE is that? In your own home?

While I would like to line-dance I really don't want to with a lot of old people. I realise that makes me an Ageist. *hangs head in shame*

So I'm Ageist as well as Racist. Some people might be surprised to find out that I've apparently recently become embraced racism. So much for the Indian ex-boyfriend then. Well, I suppose he is EX.

So one of my customers accused me of being anyway, when I prevented her and her small children from stealing from me. I wasn't sure [livejournal.com profile] special_trille's Housemate of the Extreme Liberal Views would be able to be my friend anymore after that but somehow our friendship seems to have survived it.

That song by TMBG. "Your Racist Friend" That about sums it up for me. Once, when I was very young and not as confrontational *laugh* as I am now I was at a party and someone was expressing racist views and I didn't say anything. I walked away in disgust, but I regretted immediately after not taking a stand and I've never forgotten that moment.

Some years later I moved in with my good friend, now known in lj as [livejournal.com profile] dragonfly8 (I only set up her journal earlier this evening so there's nowt there yet) we had a Games night with some of her friends from work. That nearly ended badly. The Sydney Pride Parade was on TV and I just had it on in the background, on mute. This was apparently enough to set this one guy off. Insisting I turn it off and expressing some extremely homophobic views. Well. As you can imagine that didn't go down well with me. [livejournal.com profile] dragonfly8 still remembers that evening with fondness...

While I would like to line-dance...

Ah, how fondly I remember vaguely recall drunkenly teaching you a couple of basics when we went to convince all your workmates you were cheating on [livejournal.com profile] dragonfly8.

Remember, the elbows are key!

Go not married! Go confrontational!

I broke off all contact with a friend of over 10 years standing because she wouldn't lay off the racist comments even after I made it clear that it upset me. Not sure I handled it very well - that isn't what how Doyle responded to Bodie in "Klansmen". Whenever I listen to TMGB I still think I was right though!

I'm sure there are some line dancing groups with youngish people - I saw a demo put on by about 10 separate clubs at the last Royal Show. If you find a good one let me know!
