Sorry, I don't have time to go through 'proper channels' Would a teenage girl refer to 'the time of the month'? Does it depend on what part of the country she's from, and whether she's talking to a guy, or girl?
I've lived on both sides of the country, although not in the middle, and girls—myself included—definitely said "it's that time of the month" ("that" not "the," though, usually). It's more euphemistic, so it's definitely what you'd say to a guy (if you were going to mention it at all). You might say it to a girl, too—or maybe just, "I got my fucking period last night!"
I'm originally from the middle, and it was commonplace to say that time of the month. *I* wouldn't be caught dead saying that to a guy, though (and I never had occasion to, either *g*). I remember friends telling me that phrase was a little too subtle for some guys, and they'd have to spell it out: I have my period.
