Given that they are playboys who are products of the Swinging Sixties I believe they were happily having sex with women and each other, becoming best friends along the way.
Yeah, I believe that too, basically. Although I can believe they put if off for several episodes in one way or another.... if I try... but definitely by the middle of the series, So Doing It. (I don't know, I can come up with many narratives for them. Like, there are some episodes where Danny's confidently trying to get in Brett's pants, and others where it seems to be Brett who's not realizing or caring how Danny feels about him and Danny's at an emotional disadvantage. But by the episode I'm watching tonight, they are completely, comfortably, long-term married.)
Also, towards the end, I don't think Danny is actually *sleeping* with nearly as many girls as he thinks he is. I mean, if you sat him down with a calendar and a notebook and worked through how many of them he actually bothered to close the deal with, I think he'd be pretty surprised. And I don't think Brett is bothering with other people at all at that point -- his whole attitude to me seems to be pretty much "*sigh* Well, I knew he was a ho when I married him."
(I think maybe deep down he secretly wishes Danny would just knock it off with the flirting and running around, but he tells himself it's because it would be more 'dignified' and that kind of thing.)
