Dragonfly and I have developed a tradition over the years. The morning after a storm she'll say some variation on 'Some storm, huh? Wake you up?' and I'll reply with 'There was a storm and I missed it? Damn!'*

It all broke down though this time, when I was able to say 'Oh My God, I woke up and rolled over to look out the window and the dog jumped into bed with me** and it was insane and then I turned off the computer*** and unplugged it from the power point and then didn't get back to sleep for half an hour watching the storm and I've woken up freakin' tired and maybe if I'd stayed up to some stupid hour reading fic instead of trying to get a good night's sleep for once I would have been tired enough to sleep through it, dammit and then would have been still tired in a good cause.

But, omg, tornadoes? Since when do we have tornadoes. We had like, a cyclone. 30 years ago.****

*I once slept through a bobcat razing our backyard.

**He's a wuss and terrified of mild rain showers.

***Which I'd left on with a long post about my trip down south that turned into a long explanation about why I refer to Dragonfly's folks as my inlaws, ready to update except I wanted Dragonfly to read it first to make sure that there was nothing in there she didn't want me to make public, so to speak.

****One of my few really clear early childhood memories. All of us huddled in the front room of the house by candlelight, just in case the bigass tree in the corner of the backyard came down on top of the bedrooms.

Re: *** - the 'post private' option is your friend, love.

Re: Tornados: I told Trille that y'all needed basements, and she was like, 'oh, no, we don't have tornadoes here! No tornadoes here! Nope! Not at all!' And I am VINDICATED.

Er, that bit of gloating done, I'm glad that your home was presumably not destroyed by swirling winds, and sympathise with you and your missed sleep. Woe.

*is suspicious of your jedi mindpowers*

I do NOT trust lj to keep private posts private when they're 'having problems'
I once tried to keep it private while I fixed coding errors. Turned out it was lj's fault it wasn't coding, but meanwhile it was showing up on my friends pages anyway. That was annoying.

No Jedi mindpowers! We had this discussion a month ago.

And ew, that's irritating about lj. I've had good luck - generally (okay, always,) if things are posted under the wrong filter, it's because I forget that 'private' and 'friends' are two different settings, because I am stupid.

Filters are too complicated for me. *looks helpless* Therefore everybody gets my scintallating posts whether I think they're interested or not.

Hee! I have family reading my other journals, so learning about filters rapidly became Very Very Important.

See, way back at the beginning I gave my sister and my one non-fan friend - (neither of whom live in WA or have been told about my 'interest') my lj name and link. Neither of them have ever expressed any sort of interest until a few months ago when the friend suddenly emailed me and said 'I've caught up on your life, by reading your lj' and I realised that what my lj has turned out to be mostly full of is obsessive fan stuff. *shrug*

Well, I was originally a blogger, and not at all fannish about it, either. Really, for a fan, I'm not generally terribly into media. Television watching is something of a chore for me, and I do it because I enjoy the other aspects of fandom so much, if that makes sense.

But so my relatives started reading back when I was blogging about school and stuff like that, and I sort of wanted to keep anything about my sex life away from them.

Your icon is totally adorable! If you haven't yet read "Abstain" by [livejournal.com profile] resonant or "Resolution" and it's sequel "Clarity", by [livejournal.com profile] merryish and [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza respectively, hi thee yonder and snag all three!

I don't even watch the damn show, but good fic is good fic, and a good icon is a good icon!

Oh trust me I've READ them. And reread them. And rereread them. I'd literally just finished reading Res. and Clarity and friends arrived at the door and I was incoherent - there was much arm waving and unfinished sentences and generally gibbering and then they had to go off immediately and read them and then there was communal squeeing.

Tell me you've read A Beautiful Lifetime Event by Shalott? They have a child together (it's actually quite a bit like Dragonfly and I's relationship until they actually start having sex) The story is just...great.

My paid time expired but I'm so obsessed with Atlantis and McKay that I'm not even caring that I only have 3 icons cos they all have McKay in them. This is the longest I've ever had the same default icon and the first time I've ever just used it most of the time.

I didn't make it, btw. Now that I use it all the time I spend a lot of time telling people that it was made by [livejournal.com profile] skaterg8r and that she made this one too *points*

Actually, now that I think about it (and in the interests of accuracy) only one of them ran off to read it immediately, the other just smiled indulgently. I think she wanted to experience it privately. *makes clumsy innuendo*
