I've read the excerpt from Temeraire but have not read any of the books. I was very impressed with the excerpt, but I do so much reading as an editor that I seldom read books for pleasure. Plus my book budget has been pretty limited (freelance editing paying what it does).

Sailing around in tall ships, with added dragons! how great is that!

Though I was bored witless by the romance novel dross of L and T's friendship in the last one I read (heading back home from China). I'm still just not into teh slash.

I can't remember, do you mean slashing Laurence and Temeraire? Cos, just no. I do love intense bonding/friendships though, one of my favourite series ever was Jennifer Roberson's Cheysuli series, where warriers bonded for life with an (intelligent) animal companion at puberty.

Besides, Laurence is with Jane!
