Fandom, we can be better.

I love the Archive of Our Own. LOVE IT. It's a site created and run by fans so that fanworks have a permanent home.

I do not care about the bells and whistles at all. I can go to this FREE site and find all the fic in the world I could ever want to read, by an amazing assortment of writers. I can easily post and maintain my own fic and comments, for free, and as a bonus, one of my truly happy-making things, Yuletide, is run through it.

It is AWESOME. I honestly do not understand when people criticise it for not being "easy enough". Seriously, are people so entitled now?

I do not have time to read everyone's viewpoints now. I have exams over the next few days, coincidentally while the OTW elections are running. Not that this is about me, or anything.

I am just saddened that people are getting hurt.

[personal profile] svmadelyn made an eloquent post, complete with a heap of links, here.

And in comments [personal profile] giddygeek summed it up well:

I honestly think that [personal profile] astolat is one of the bright lights of fandom...

I mean, I also think that incredibly important issues have been raised by the recent conversations. The people who are posting to say, I'm tired and frustrated and feeling unheard--it's good to expose that to the sunlight, although I'm so saddened by the idea that it had gotten that bad. I think it's clear that NN didn't realize how bad the burnout had gotten on the volunteer end, and I think it's very obvious now that some things need to change. I just also think that if you want things done/changed/improved, she's the kind of tireless, creative, dedicated person you want on the team that's leading the way.

Thank you for this. And thanks for the link to [personal profile] svmadelyn's post, too.
