Do swanky flats in London still have porters nowadays?

Not so sure about porters but they definitely have a concierge or a doorman.

Cool, that's what I was wanting to find out.

Apparently porter is the old fashioned term for concierge. That's what I get for watching shows like The Persuaders and The Saint. *g*

I just finished a book set in London and a character in it asked if some particular flats were 'portered'. (Set in the late 80s/early 90s, and written by Julian Clary. 'Murder Most Fab', and I thoroughly enjoyed it.)

Is Julian Clary a good writer, or do you reckon it was ghost written?

I have his autobiography, and it was a good read, so I am pretty sure he is writing novels with his own fair hand :-)

Sorry totally utilising you as my Brit checker, hope you don't mind *facepalm*

Would you guys talk about how many miles you jog, or how many kilometres?

Feel free! Probably say 10 kay instead of 7 miles. 5k gets used too.
But it depends how far, as well. If you were running 10+ miles, you would say miles because it sounds more hardcore! Half-marathon gets said as well. If it was a very short distance, you'd probably say a couple of miles. I think that covers all the very vague bases :-D I imagine anyone under 25 is surely using all kilometres these days.

Yay thanks! I put 10km but my beta queried it and I realised I wasn't sure.

We don't use miles at all.

It occurred to me that I should make an important caveat - road signs and car speedometers; driving distances generally, are all miles :)
