Lotsa vid recs!

It’s that time of year when Vividcon is over and the fabulous vids premiered there become available online. Most of the vidders I know already and can be pretty confident I'm going to like their vid/s but it's also a chance to see new (to me) vidders. I also tend to backtrack and find the vids they've been making the rest of the year while I wasn't paying attention. Or the whole catalog if it's someone I've somehow missed before.

I haven't had a chance to check them all out, some are on imeem, which for some reason won't play sound for me atm, and some are in fandoms I don't know. Also I have to stop downloading, uh, anything, right now, otherwise I'm gonna get us shaped and Dragonfly will be Cranky.

If you want to check them all out, or keep up with vids generally I recommend checking out [livejournal.com profile] vidding.

Live Free and Die Hard

([livejournal.com profile] mamoru22 I thought, I remember Mamoru, did some of the best SGA vids ever. *handwaves* She has lots of excellent SGA vids. Go see. Seriously, too many to list. Go see. I'm sure everyone's already seen 'Holding My Breath' and 'Cartoon Heroes' a million times, but have you seen the David Hewlett one, 'Without Me'? But hey, how about her vids in other fandoms.)

I enjoyed Live Free or Die Hard but I preferred the earlier films when McLane was human and not a Terminator. Die Hard With a Vengeance is one of my comfort films, and in fact was the catalyst for me finally picking up a pen and writing my first slash fic. So when I see DH4 fans trashing it I get all defensive and cranky. I’ve enjoyed several good MacLane/Matt fics but the pairing doesn’t really interest me. Also, vids about action films usually bore me ::cough TheFastandtheFurious cough:: – so when I say: hey, go watch this DH4 vid, it’s pretty cool, this is HIGH PRAISE.

Bad Day

Boston Legal

This is the kind of vid that you can watch having never seen the show and it’ll leave you wondering why the hell you’re not watching it. In fact, I watched a few episodes of Boston Legal on the telly, having heard about the awesomeness of the Denny/Alan relationship, but there was too much actual legal stuff and life is too short, and also, the concept of 70+ year old William Shatner in a serious slash pairing kinda breaks my brain, but having watched this I may have to reconsider, and also maybe watch them on dvd where I can wield the power of the fast forward.

Anyway, even if you don’t slash them, this vid makes the show look like SO MUCH FUN.

A Little Less Conversation

Supernatural

I’m not up to date on Supernatural, but it doesn’t matter. This is the cutest SPN vid ever, completely child and wuss safe, not a monster in sight, just two cute men mucking about and being adorable.

Heroes/Firefly/Supernatural

I been reading recs and meta for this all about the place but all I have to say is: this is brilliant and intense and it’s NOT happy-making and it's NOT child-safe. It’s about the claustrophobic/incestuous sibling relationships.

Firefly

Also recced and meta’d – this Firefly vid with additional footage apparently highlights how Joss Whedon is a racist asshole. *shrug* I have to say, much as I love Firefly I did have issues with a show with an Asian cultural backdrop that didn’t actually include any Asian characters. Anyhow, the vid is gorgeous.

How Much Is That Geisha in the Window? by [livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa

Brad is an example of a fucking awesome vidder that I don't always pay enough attention to because his vids are gen or het. This Firefly vid, for example, is just technically fucking amazing, and also disturbing. It comes with warnings. I'll never look at Simon/Kaylee the same way again.

Dr Who

Awesome, awesome Ten character study. Also, FUN.

Iron Man

I nearly didn't include this because it uses the same song as the Dr Who one, which is just so damn shiny and then I realised that it's not fair to compare them - with a movie the vidder is limited with what they can do with the amount of footage they have. And this vid IS Tony Stark's story.

Just a fun multifandom vid with characters we love…and their clones.
