Stuff I've watched this week.
1 x Supernatural off the tv- have forgotton the plot already but the boys are always pretty.
1 x Big Love - the pilot. The one about polygamy. People were talking it up and I was curious just cos of the perv value, and because Bill Paxton, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Chloe Sevigny star in it. Wasn't overly interesting, family drama yada yada except with three wives. The look at 'the Compound' was interesting though.
Season 2 of Dead Like Me. All of it. Though had I realised that it was the last season I would have savoured it more, instead of mainlining it.
. It's quirky like Wonderfalls. Except how most of the people in it are dead. Grim Reapers to be precise. Mandy Patinken is Rube, the leader of 'the crew' and there's Roxy, the badass cop, Mason, the fucked up addict, Daisy, the actress, who is fucked up in ways the show didn't really get to explore, and George, who died age 18 when the toilet seat from the Mir spacestation hit her. She has issues about it.
My favourite things about the show.
George's friendship with her boss Dolores Herbig (as in Her Big Brown Eyes) which I can't even begin to explain. I would voluntarily read gen fics about this.
Daisy and Mason's relationship. These two are so, so fucked up. And yet I can't help rooting for them. I WANT fics that are twisted and dark and yet work out for them in the end.
The 'family' they become to each other, as twisted as it is.
How gay-friendly the show is. One of the reaps is a gay couple, three hours apart. Mason goes to their house, reaps the soul of the one about to die in an accident, then has to hang around while the other discovers the body and decides he can't live without his partner. I was IN TEARS. There was another ep with a transgender reap. And in yet another episode involving a party at George's workplace, the camera pans past two guys holding hands. Interestingly, in the pilot ep, at George's wake, her Dad hugs another guy, and George comments doubtfully 'Are hugs between heterosexual guys supposed to last that long?' I read that the creator of the show was setting up a plot arc where George's Dad was going to be gay and therefore she shouldn't exist or something, but shortly afterwards he left to do Wonderfalls and they abandoned that idea.
- Aeon Flux.
The first half was slow, and a bit confusing and I was sitting there thinking that you really had to be a fan of the comic to appreciate it, but then the plot kicked in and I was rooting for Aeon/Trevor and they were so guh together. I mean I know she's like a superhero or whatever, but there's something about a girl shoving a guy against a wall to snog him and the guy just melting into that pushes ALL my buttons. Plus I loved how when they were doing the running and escaping and dodging bullets that she was the protector while he stayed behind her. Plus Trevor's someone I would actually choose to be with.
Also, Jonny Lee Miller is always fun to watch, with his long jackets with big collars. Don't mess with a good thing, I say.
