Lewis! Pimping!

Recently I successfully pimped Wiseguy to [livejournal.com profile] zebra363.

Even more recently I successfully pimped Lewis to [livejournal.com profile] blue_pax solely by email. She was hooked before she'd seen an episode.

Either I'm really good at this, or my friends are easy! *g*

Okay, so we have Lewis who used to be the young sidekick of Morse (there was slash but Lewis was canonically happily married). This series starts 5 years after Morse’s death and 3 years after his wife’s – he’s still in mourning for both of them. He’s been on secondment to one of the islands and comes home and accidentally gets involved in a case where Hathaway is the DS. In the next ep Hathaway was supposed to be seconded to someone else but asks them to give Lewis first refusal.

Lewis is older, all working class and intuition. Hathaway is intellectual and knows lots of stuff, somewhat ascetic (was studying to be a priest but threw it over to become a cop) and was headboy of his Public school. He’s quite restrained and aloof, except for how the two obviously click, and have bonding moments (you know, that we live for *g*)

So, I got to see an episode on the weekend that is FAMOUS and known as ‘the Hathaway ep’. A young man commits suicide in a church and Hathaway takes one look at the body and runs away upset. Turns out they were close friends when they were younger. He assures Lewis that he hadn’t seen him for years and doesn’t have a conflict of interest, except bits and pieces of history keep coming out as Hathaway interviews people they both knew, and the whole thing revolves around the guy committing suicide because he was gay, and Lewis is WTF! and asks him if there’s anything he needs to know about Hathaway and his friend’s relationship and later in the car asks

L – Are you? No, it’s none of my business
H – Am I what?
L – It’s none of my business.
H - Go on, you’re dying to ask.
L – Well?
H – Well what?
L – Are you?
H – Am I what?
L – Are you GAY?
H- *gives complete non answer*

Later Lewis realises that Hathaway knows why it’s all been happening all along and yells at Hathaway in the street about how he’s been lying to him and how can he trust him anymore and passersby are staring at them and Hathaway’s really upset and tries to explain, And Lewis is all how can I trust you and Hathaway screams at Lewis, YOU”RE NOT LISTENING TO ME and Lewis calms a bit and Hathaway is baring his soul!!! And then Lewis just goes, NO YOU LIED TO ME GO AWAY I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOU.

Seriously, it’s like hitting the slash jackpot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The scene is on youtube only STUPIDLY only in Italian so I’ve had to obsessively watch it at home several times with the sound off just to watch their body language. YES I AM THAT OBSESSED.

The reason they’re not wearing suits is cos they went to a Pride party – they turn up together…

Party goer who knows them. – Look at you, all CASUAL.
Hathaway *deprecatingly* We’re not very good at it.

I do not own Lewis on DVD, and since they're British shows, they're obscenely expensive. Therefore I am only getting to watch them at an excruitatingly drawn out pace, as I have to invite myself over to [livejournal.com profile] ravenclaw_harpy's for viewings. On the plus side, I still have more to see, yays!!!

I have however, had to buy season 2 because of the SLASH JACKPOT episode, despite the fact that I am now saving all my money for house-buying. Really. I'm pretty much living on hommus and fruit for lunch weekdays. I think I may actually be getting sick of hommus, which I didn't know was possible. Or it might me that I'm just not that fond of the Black Swan brand that came in an economy size tub and as such have been plowing through all week.

It was like FATE - season 2 was on sale at Amazon UK for under ten pounds!! Bargain!!! Once you add postage and do the currency conversion it's only....$28. For 4 movie length eps. OOOPS.

Pretty Hathaway piccies:
Melancholy Hathaway
Pouting Hathaway
Thoughtful Hathaway
Pride party!

Either I'm really good at this, or my friends are easy! *g*

Both, but also you're offering quality material! I just hope you have more stuff this good up your sleeve to push on me later.

Do you doubt me?

Also, where is the online Lewis stuff? Just had a quick look at your friended communities and it wasn't immediately obvious to me. Not that I need any further distractions at the moment.

Yes it was a bit obscure of them to call it [livejournal.com profile] inspector_lewis. It's like they don't want people to find them.

Ah, I owe you an apology taking the piss. I had assumed I was a member of the comm, must have just had the tab permanently open.
am now though!

Who would have thought the spin-off from Inspector Morse would have so much slash potential?! I will have to give it a go. Having been pimped by you, evil enabler, into all sorts of random slashiness, I can categorically say that it is all your fault.

On the plus side, you may go off houmous, but wow, you will be bristling with health after such healthy lunches. Although life without houmous would be pretty sad.

I AM AN EVIL ENABLER. I AM.

IS there life without hommus?

I win at pimping \o/

I'm actually not a huge fan of this genre, I normally find them too slow, having been RUINED by American shows. But this one has reasonably interesting (sometimes randomly gay for no reason) characters and all the cute Lewis/Hathaway moments.

LOL at use of EVIL caps :) I normally hate the slow - it reminds me of tea-time on rainy Sundays, surely the lowest point of every teen's life in Britain (so surely that Morrissey wrote a song about it!), but I will go a long way, as you have probably guessed, for the randomly gay!!

For example, the episode I watched last night this Oxford don got murdered (by mistake, as it turned out) and Lewis and Hathaway made a delicate enquiry and the male student they were interviewing said, "Old queen, you mean. He wasn't after sex, if that's what you mean. He was a good bloke."

I *loved* Wiseguy. I saw some on dvd recently, and had to make the reality check that I'm still on season 4 of Buffy, and season 1 of Babylon Five, and haven't even finished the first season of the Muppets, therefore I am Not Allowed to buy any more television to watch.

Now I want to see Lewis.

(also: I can give you good hummus recipe. Also many other cheap legume recipes for making lunches from. And other meals. Red lentils + tomato passata makes a passable bolognese sauce....)

[identity profile] sarren.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
*bewildered* Why are you watching season one Babylon 5?

Would you be interested in coming to a Lewis viewing?

Is it easy to make? I ask because while I love hommus a really lot, Dragonfly doesn't at all, so I won't be able to get her to make it, dammit.

I love you!!! (1) You're into Lewis!!!!! (2)You found Lewis IN ITALIAN!!!!!!!!! When are you going to join [livejournal.com profile] inspector_lewis??

[identity profile] sarren.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
UM, now? I actually thought I already was, must be just that I have the tab permanently open!
